1. About Our Civic Duty
Our Civic Duty ("we," "us," or "our") is a nonprofit civic education platform. We provide interactive learning trails, election information, and civic engagement resources. By accessing or using our website at ourcivicduty.org (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service.
2. User Accounts
You may use the Service as a guest (anonymous) or by signing in with a Google account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity that occurs under your account.
You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
- Reproduce or distribute any content from the Service without written permission
- Impersonate any person or entity
4. Intellectual Property
All content on the Service — including text, graphics, logos, and interactive trail content — is owned by or licensed to Our Civic Duty. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written consent. Educational use for personal, non-commercial purposes is permitted.
5. Third-Party Services
The Service uses third-party services including Google Firebase (authentication and data storage), Google Civic Information API (election data), and OpenStreetMap (mapping). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the content or practices of these third parties.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that election information will be complete or current. Always verify election information with your official local election authority.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR CIVIC DUTY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU SHALL NOT EXCEED $100.
8. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. We will post the revised Terms with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitute acceptance of the new Terms.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Our Civic Duty is incorporated, without regard to conflict of law principles.
