- Mayor's seat is VACANT — Mayor Steve Whittenberg resigned effective immediately at the July 13, 2026 council meeting, along with a council member, the city attorney, and all but six members of the volunteer fire department, described locally as a dispute among newly elected council members. Mayor Pro Tem Carrol Wells is the senior remaining officer; a special election is set for November 3, 2026. Interim City Administrator Stephanie Jester (appointed August 17, 2026) is also part of this transition.
