Chief Executive Officer & Board of Commissioners

CEO-Commission form of government — DeKalb is the only county in Georgia with an elected Chief Executive Officer operating independently from the legislative branch, independently confirmed. CEO: Lorraine Cochran-Johnson (took office January 2025; first woman and first Black woman elected to the role). The legislative branch is a 7-member Board of Commissioners (5 district + 2 super-district), which elects a Presiding Officer and Deputy Presiding Officer annually. Presiding Officer: Chakira Johnson (District 4). Deputy Presiding Officer: LaDena Bolton (Super District 7).
