Georgia's 159 counties are each run by an elected board of commissioners (a few small counties use a single "sole commissioner") that holds both legislative and executive power — setting budgets, passing ordinances, and overseeing departments. For a public meeting or records request, contact the county board of commissioners' office or county clerk; agendas and minutes are typically posted by the county itself. A handful of counties have consolidated city-county governments (e.g. Augusta-Richmond, Columbus-Muscogee) or an added elected CEO role, but board-of-commissioners is the norm.
