Idaho's 44 counties are governed by an elected three-member Board of County Commissioners holding combined legislative and executive power over the county budget, tax levy, and ordinances. The elected County Clerk also serves as auditor, recorder, and clerk of the board — keeping commission minutes, recording deeds, and running elections — so the Clerk's office is the usual first stop for meeting records and most public documents.
