Real, remarkable transition: George Coulam — founder of the Texas Renaissance Festival and the town's only mayor since its 1982 incorporation (43 years) — lost re-election to Mensing by 6 votes, then died on May 21, 2025, days after a Grimes County judge ordered the court-forced sale of the Texas Renaissance Festival itself, the town's entire economic reason for existing.
